Richard Watts has more than 25 years experience in construction and engineering with the last 15 years as corporate construction counsel. Mr. Watts joined Granite Construction Incorporated in 2003, was named Assistant General Counsel in 2010, was named Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Compliance Officer in 2012 and was named Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Compliance Officer in 2013. Granite Construction Incorporated is one of the largest diversified heavy civil contractors and construction materials producers in the United States. It has been ranked by Fortune Magazine as one of “America’s Most Admired Companies” for engineering and construction, by Forbes as one of the “100 Most Trustworthy Companies in America, and for the sixth consecutive year has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies. Prior to his employment at Granite, Mr. Watts acted as Corporate Counsel at Jacobs Engineering Group and worked as an attorney with Cokinos, Bosien & Young. Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Watts’ was as a project and design engineer for Turner Collie & Braden (now AECOM), and served in the United States Army Reserves.
Mr. Watts received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University and his J.D. at South Texas College of Law. Mr. Watts is a licensed attorney by the State Bar of Texas and has in-house Counsel License from the State Bar of California. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
